This weekend a very special WWEC event took place – it can be presented as a warm-up race for WISSA 2011, the ice and snow sailing world championship in Oravi, Finland. The status of a beginning race of a long, high class competition did not reduce the heat, it rather motivated the competitors to practice and get serious about their technique.
In slalom discipline Janis Preiss is absolute leader by not losing almost any race (Lithuanian rider Giedrius put tension to the leaders position at the very first start), in addition also becoming the leader in WWEC slalom overall ranking. The young Lithuanian rider Andrius showed remarkable result especially in the first day taking strong second position. Third position took a French rider, first time participating in WWEC event (complete list of results will be published within the next days). Regarding slalom discipline great compliments go to the organizers that we dare to say have ensured the best cleaned ice conditions ever experienced – large enough ice area that allows to adjust the full size distance to any kind of wind.
In course racing Russian racers with serious intentions regarding the upcoming World championship took all the first positions. Janis Preiss and Estonian riders were actively competing for the positions in the top ten.
In addition to winter windsurfing, WWEC joined wing riders at the end of the weekend reaching the same amount of participants as in the sail group. They were more than satisfied with the racing area and distance. Worth to mention that before wing riders have done the slalom discipline only once – in WISSA two years ago that took place in Riga on Ķīšezers.
As said before, nothing is over yet – the competing continues with many many races within the WISSA championship. More information about the interesting moments and results regarding winter windsurfing and the other ice sailing groups will follow.
