WWEC2009 season closing and award giving ceremony will take place within nearest weeks. For what we are waiting? For ice, of course. To make last event of WWEC09 enjoyable not only for party animals.
Now in most areas ice is covered with tick mix of snow and water.
In Aluksne, for example there are 40 cm snow/water on top of 60 cm ice. In spring time we always can get couple windsurfing weeks extra, when days are long, snow is melted and ice is perfect – especially in morning time after cold nights. Most possible spots for season closing is Estonia or Latvia.

WWEC 2009 was taking place in Europe for the first time this winter season becoming milestone of the development of winter windsurfing. Besides basics of winter windsurfing Dagnis can teach also freestyle that is the most favorite discipline for him.
How did you start windsurfing?
Actually I started with kite, but after exercising few times on the beach, somehow it didn`t seem exciting for me. In summer 2005 there was the opportunity to by super old windsurfing board and even older sail. Meanwhile I saw old Robby Naish movie and realized that there is something to strive for. Finnish National race was held on Unnukka (between Varkaus and
Leppävirta) this weekend. Bad forecast and several other reasons resulted in 13 participants only. However one could say that most motivated out of best 20 Finnish racers were there. Low wind picked up by Saturday noon and slalom track was perfected manually at the same time.

Riders from Latvia are rocking in the WWEC 2009 in Estonia in slalom discipline, taking nearly all places on pedestal in perfect sunny and windy weather!

Great sunny and windy competition day is over, but some night slalom riding, sauna and party with live music is happening after a while.
There are 20 riders together from 4 countries – Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Great Britain, racing in Estonia, Haapsalu. Finally there is also women group, leaders after first day in slalom – Marianne Kaplas from Finland, but course racing discipline – Marta Ozola from Latvia.
There has been 4 course discipline races and 8 slalom races. Leader in both disciplines stays the same – Janis Preiss from Latvia. Second in slalom – Aleksandrs Leontjevs, LAT, 3rd place – Mikus Bevalds, LAT. Course after first day – 2nd place Valeri Filippov, EST, 3.rd place – Jevgeni Bogatorjov, EST.
